The coxswain of our racing team has decided to make a living out of his hobby. He is leaving for Antibes tomorrow, to find a job on a yacht. First he's going to take a course in safety (fire fighting and so).

Questions:
- which are the best crewing agencies ?
- any hints and tips
- any job openings ? Isn't MirabellaV hireing?

BTW, you can see him crewing the Belgian gig in the October issue of Classic Yachts

Loads of crew agencies, tellim to sign on. Tellim to hurry, as winter carib season crew hirings are being made soon.

Suggest sign on with Freedom Yachting, close by port vauban in Antibes opposite La Gaffe bar. They are a good crew agency and they can advise and instruct on all the required courses. Ask for the boss Joey (that's a girl, and a very nice one too)

He will need to prepare a CV. Most have tel numbers and emails for references from previous employers and it's common for a new employer just to call captian of a previous employer yacht and ask if the new hire is any good

There are loads of qualifications. The RYA dayskip/ym are useful. There's something called STCW95 that most crew need to get hired.

JFM in a better position BUT

also try Blue Water Yachting in the old port- (raeson for mentioning is that they also are currently advertising for crew)

Tip - Get his bum down there fast if he wants to Carib season , otherwise might as well wait until New Year...

M&A activity on Riviera

Blue water and Freedom are the same now - BW bought Freedom a couple of weeks ago.

Well, so people in bars in Antibes tell me, and we know how reliable they are, grrrr.

There's another big crew agency right by Transat restaurant in Antibes, forgot the name, but if the guy gets down there and asks around he'll find it all out, not difficult

Tut , tut. I missed that one.

I think you mean 'The Crew Agency'.

Anyway Kingfisher you get the drift. Any worthwhile aspiring crew member can crawl around the lot in about 10 minutes , and only 2 minutes if walking sober.

Actually they're trying to keep it secret or something. So the freedom shopfront remains. But when you have some money owed to you by them, they have to say "is it ok if I give you a Blue Water cheque", at which point cat is out of bag, tee hee. So it's a very open secret

All very allegedly, imho, this is just a rumour, I dont know first hand, nor do I care :)

Ooh. Tellim to say hello to the lovely Joey, boss lady at Freedom, from me. Not that she knows me as jfm. She knows me as John, or Judy's boss. Judy is her flatmate. I'm the guy who bought Joey lunch in the Blue Angel a few weeks back, with Matt. Not tcm, another Matt, from s/y Atmosphere

Better stop now. This must be reading like a coronation street episode
