Antibes and boat on movie, Leicester Square premier next week

Who the f are Joe & Caspar? By the way did you notice that boat has a hardtop and black domes just like yours;)

John,

I think you should sue him/her, even dare have the same name as yours, ancam on the same spot visible on the official trailer, ts ts ts...

Is there a story in this "film" did they shoot a lot of stuff on Match?

Is this what passes for entertainment these days? .... Gawd 'elp us! Entertainment for the brain dead.

Astonishingly, yes. Youtube is packed full of similar inane ramblings - a friend of mine's sons (late teenage) spend hours staring slack jawed at it, chuckling occasionally.

Beats going outside, having fun, interacting with people or generally making any kind of effort apparently. Just watch other people doing it, it's the same thing!

Ems due back from a sleep over any minute, (mum & dad might have been out on the razz last night), I shall let her know, though to be honest she's probably already aware.

Come on you old farts, the dude's are alright. We can hardly talk.......

I hope you got yourself a good agent.

Henry :)

I agree with jfm that some of the boating bits are nice, and I can't blame him for having supported the production, because obviously all of those onboard had some fun.

That said, urgh! I couldn't agree more with those concerned about what seem to attract the younger generations.
The famous Brecht sentence Unglucklich das Land, etc. springs to mind. And he obviously had a completely different type of heroes in mind - he surely wouldn't stop spinning in his grave, if he should see what sort of modern heroes we have!
Almost makes one wonder if those who find more attractive the idea of six dozens of virgins waiting for them aren't actually the sharpest knives in the drawer... :ambivalence:

You make a fair comment. I suppose the difference is that watching TV for an hour was just one of the things we did.

These days it seems that, for some at least, whole lives can be lived vicariously on line, just staring staring staring dully at a screen for hours on end.

Hadn’t heard of them either before Jfm mentioned them sometime ago. Those guys are bang in the center of the disruption in the entertainment/media industry. Essentially self produced material shared and consumed though youtube with massive audiences (some of their vids get 12+ million views). This democratisation of content and entertainment is a big blow to tv networks and such who fight for their ‘screentime’. A great big shift in where the value is created.

I see their stuff in a different light. Bearing in mind that their rise to stardom has been through the most democratic process possible, the values portrayed on their vids must represent those of a very large number of young people. Based on the half a dozen of their vids I’ve watched, the vibe is always positive, friendly and IMO respectful. Especially in the light of recent events, I'm not at all sorry if young people look up to them.

Sure, there isn’t a huge amount of substance in some of the stuff they do but one could argue that this is not atypical of light entertainment in general.

Take the clip in question for example. In the grand scheme of things I see many similarities between this and the various Top Gear road trips they have done (which seem to have been accepted as ‘proper’ entertainment, btw).

They even use the same boats on their vids :).

Agree, certainly no worse than the reality TV shown on commercial media. Good on them, I like seeing enterprising young folk being successful.

Mmm... Hardly the same thing, J.
For none of the folks around here which I got to know in person, this forum is anything more than a pastime, while most of their life is spent doing something else - usually MUCH more productive.
Erm..., ok, for those who know my own lifestyle, I did say "usually"... :o - though I also did my fair share of non-virtual efforts, anyway.

Oh, and re. the last comments from scubaman & AndieMac, just to clarify my previous post:
Being concerned with what seem to attract the younger generations, by all means, doesn't mean thinking that those two folks are stupid.
In fact, I actually think that - on top of some natural skills, so to speak - there's some predetermined effort from their part in appearing so.
And with great success obviously, therefore chapeaux to them.
It's the 5 millions or whatever followers that made me (and also others, as I understood) thinking...

Now then you old farts! Emily here (Henry's daughter).

Sorry for the late reply but I have been ever so busy with homework and my extra-curricular activities. Just got back from cheerleading where I was incredibly social. Before this, I had gymnastics and school where I was even more social. The point here is that us teens don't spend every drop of our time watching these successful you-tubers, we work, socialise and exercise throughout the day just as I'm sure any of you adults do! Tuesday I have gym then ballet, Wednesday acting then ballet, Thursday netball then tap then jazz, Friday contemporary dance and then we most likely go down to the boat.

Are we not allowed down time? Is it suddenly illegal to have an hour (if that) per night to relax? And anyway, so what if Joe and Caspar are famous for making pointless home videos. They have become successful under their own steam in an extremely harsh environment. Do they not deserve the credit they so rightly earned? They didn't create a youtube channel in the hope that they would become famous; it was just coincidence that people discovered their inner ability to make people laugh at the time youtube was becoming popular.

I wish them all the best in the release of their new film in Leicester Square on Sunday 22nd Nov (WHICH FYI IS MY BIRTHDAY!) Many teens will watch it, just as you out-dated adults will sit down to watch your weekly trash on TV and if you don't like that... don't the Archers have a Sunday omnibus :)

Ems x

Well Emily, if your brief résumé is anything to go by, I'm sure you'll have better ways to celebrate your b'day than joining the Leicester Square crowd... Good for you! :encouragement:
But above all, thanks for contributing to the debate, because yours is obviously a very valuable viewpoint, in this context.
Now, if you don't mind me (one of the out-dated old farts! :)) asking, why exactly do you consider their credit "rightly earned", if as you say it's basically due to a coincidence?
