Hi.i have these loops on both my toilet pipes,Jabsco toilet..the out let one leaks and hisses when i pump out,how can i stop this please?do i turn the little knob to close it? i dont have a holding tank btw.

Probably needs cleaning, servicing or replacing.

Partly blocked outlet hose or seacock could be causing excessive pressure ...... but you'd realise it was getting difficult to pump

thanks vic..i have renewed all the pipework, and serviced the blakes seacock, but re used the anti sypon valves.will take them off and give them a clean soon...horrendous price for new ones.

They are designed to let air in so as to break the siphon so, after pumping, a little hissing is acceptable. There shouldnt be any hissing when actualy pumping as this implies that the air is being forced out the wrong way. If you also have leaks then thats further proof that the duck bill needs to be replaced. As stated by VicS, could suggest a high back pressure in the waste pipe caused by obstruction in the waste pipe or scaled up pipework.

thanks for your input...all new pipes so no scale...i was looking at it again just now,as i pump out there is a hissing and dribbling of water, but an idea struck me...when i serviced the blakes i might have put the handle of the seacock back on 180deg out as it seems open position is now closed position,is this even possible?but even in the closed (open)position i have p%ss filled water dribbling out, much to swmbo's disgust.

Yes, it is possible - the handle can go on in four different positions to let it clear nearby obstructions in some installations. There should be an arrow on the square top of the cone, which points to where the hole is. Regardless of handle position, the arrow needs to point at the hose for the valve to be open.

I would have thought you'd be able to feel that the valve is closed when you try to pump, though.

Definitely unscrew the cap on the top of the anti-siphon to have a look at the rubber valve.

Never seen a ''toilet'' on a boat. Perhaps you mean Heads ?

According to the Oxford Companion to Ships and the Sea
"heads" is
the name given to that part of the older sailing ships forward of the forecastle and around the beak which was used by the crew as their lavatory. In the US Navy it was simply known as the head, but in the Royal Navy the word was always used in the plural to indicate the weather and lee sides, seamen being expected to use the lee side so that all effluent fell clear into the sea. They were floored with gratings so that the sea could assist in washing them clean.

that does not sound like what the OP was describing at all. :)
