Hello,

I have an ETAP with a TBS anti slip deck. it's 15 years old and coloured yellow. I heared it is possible to paint it.
Wich paint to use ? is there special paint for it ?
any ideas ?
Thanks,
Andy

Hi Andy,

We've used International's Deck Paint for years now. It's very easy to apply, looks great and is extremely effective.

One of the things we like, is that a single coat every three to four years, keeps the boat looking great as well as refreshing the non-slip capabilities.

When we go to the Med or Caribbean, we change the colour from our usual paleblue/grey to white, to keep the boat cool below and the decks cool enough to use in bare feet.

Oooops! Sorry Andy, just realised you may have meant that you wanted to paint the TBS rather than replace it with a non-slip paint system.

You can buy a special paint for Walker's Treadmaster which is similar in composition to TBS so will probably be just as effective.

I have used this (very expensive but economical) on my Treadmaster sections, and it does exactly what it says on the tin. It bonds to the stuff very well and 'rejuvenates' the covering making it look and act as good as new. Ours has been done for two seasons now and to our surprise, shows absolutely no sign of wear.

If you contact James Walker and Co (Woking based) they will be able to supply a list of retailers.

>>but it won't last more than 2/3 years.<<

Interesting. As I said above, ours has had two seasons use now and looks exactly the same as when we first did it. I did put on two coats though, even though one is supposed to be perfectly adequate. I also spent a considerable time ensuring that the Treadmaster was completely clean and degreased before applying the paint. Perhaps this is the reason it's lasting so well?!!

Being a devout coward, I did a piece on a gash bit of Treadmaster some weeks before applying it to the boat, and found it almost impossible to remove unless I scraped it with a knife or chisel as it seems to 'bond' or soak into the material.

Still, it's early days, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for it's longevity!!

Hi Yanita,

It may not be the same in structure, but the Treadmaster paint does work on it!

My friend's put TBS on their Colvic 33 which they sail now in the Med. A few years later, but I don't know how long, they used the Treadmaster paint which was all that was available, to do their TBS deck panels.

It must have had several years use now, and whilst looking a bit grubby and bleached now, it is still adhering very well. I haven't seen it personally for about 21 months, so things might have 'gone to hell', but I think I'd have heard about it if this was so!

I wonder if TBS would prefer people to replace the stuff as you did, rather than extend it's life by using a rivals product? Nah! I'm just being cynical - and it's Christmas after all. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

A very Merry one to you too Yanita and a Happy New Year! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
