Repainting the deck I'm not quite sure what to add. It was probably sanded before which was okay as an anti skid surface and unfortunately very good at collecting dirt. Just had a look at Hempel's granules and they seem very very fine, more like snuff actually. Ten times the price of Jotun additive too! Jotun comes in particle sizes from 180 microns to 1000 microns but how coarse/fine is that in real life?

have you thought of using exterior textured masonry paint ?

Anticipated >5 yr life
Huge range of colours
Excellent value for money
Skid resistance at least as good as expensive stuff (subjective view :) )

My decks lasted 5 years with the Dulux stuff.

Any grit added to paint is going be very difficult to keep clean. Don't ask how I know.

The best solution I have found is the industrial grade stick on pads. last for years, are dark enough not to show any dirt and so easy to clean.
Available in wide variety of grits and colours.
Takes all of 5 minutes to install and no clean up afterward.
The only prep is wipe with a solvent, I use Acetone.

Good luck and fair winds.

Flaking masonry paint was the reason behind this undertaking ;-)
I'm not sure it would be that much cheaper btw. £20 to £50 per five litres for Jotun paint and primer. Okay Tesco own brand would be cheaper I guess.
I have however used Dulux Weathershield successfully on the hull.

1000 microns is 1mm. That would be far to coarse. I think I'd be looking at the bottom end of the range you are quoting.

I have used International Interdeck several times. Quite happy with the results but I cannot find out what grade the grit is.

For a very good grip on deck you can use silver sand - buy a bag of dried sand for block paving. First this is to use a household sieve to remove anything oversize. Then coat the deck with your choice of gloss paint and continually cover with a layer of sand. Once dry sweep with a paint brush, then carefully hoover. Then coat with another coat of gloss. If it seems too rough then give another coat of gloss. We used to use this on a racing yacht and we had the most non slip decks in the fleet.
