Normally when two very similar shops are close to each other, their prices are the same. eg a washing machine in Curry's is the same price as Comet etc.

On Saturday I went in to one swindlery for antifouling. Their prices were
Blakes Tiger Cruising £34.95 - only available in red.
Blakes Tiger Extra £59.95.

I wanted to pay circa £35 and for blue, so drive less than half a mile to another swindlery. Their prices for exactly the same product - and recent stock, they claim - were

Blakes Tiger Cruising £33.95
Blakes Tiger Extra £38.95 ie 21 quid cheaper than the first shop !!

Just goes to prove that it is worth shopping around sometimes.

Both shops are in Lymington, BTW.

Asked the price of stainless rigging wire at a chandlers near me last year, got quoted £4.80 a metre,
went to another ten miles away , got the same stuff for £2.30 a metre.

Nothing at all to do with anti-foul though !

Again nowt to do with anti fouling but looking for a PC this w/e, after visiting Currys, PC World & finally Dixons, was told by Dixons salesman, don't bother to go anywhere else, we are all in same group! & there was me looking for keenest price/best service whatever. Didn't we used to have a monopolies commission or summat??

And I thought you were only at risk if you wanted to sail the South China Sea. However, I am convinced that piracy is alive and kicking in the UK (imho).
Retail price maintenance (what? - price fixing?) seems to be alive and kicking, and (especially) anything to do with boating seems to be charged at far more than the 'intrinsic' value of the goods or services being provided.
If something is obviously very cheap by comparison to the norm then it's either faulty or nicked! (also imho).

If you want a cheap PC, don't go to a High St retailer. Just think about it; their prices have to cover the premises costs, staff costs, etc. If you want a good value PC buy through mail order. On average High st retailers will be 100-150 more expensive on a spec-for-spec basis.
