As a new boat owner (new to owning a boat rather than owning a new boat!) I want to anti foul my Shetland 535 (GRP 17' Cruiser) over the winter.

What do you recommend?

Best thing to do is ask the locals which antifouling works best where you are. If the present surface is not too bad, sand it down with wet wet and dry and put a couple of coats of whats best on. make sure you get it into all the crevices and areas that are difficult to get at. I normally put an extra coat on areas of high erosion like the leading edge of the fin and skeg.

Thanks for that.

I'm thinking of mooring the boat at Wisbech next year and using it primarily in the Wash.

Any recommendations for there anyone?

I'd always use a biodegradable type - it's hosed off at the end of a season and usually ready for next year's coat more or less.

Also - most have to be in the water within 3 months of application.

Avoid XM however cheap the chandlers try it offload it, I tried this last year and it is total c**p. I would have more effect putting on dog ****

I recommend any type of Jotun. You can normally pick them up cheap from a fishing gear outlet. I've used them all with good results.
PS my first boat was a shetland 535, good fun!
