Hi guys I am new to boating . I have asked a yard for a quote for antifouling . So what do they mean by ,do I want one coat or one and half coat or two ,it's the one and a half is confusing . While I'm here what sort of AF is good for Devon , cruising at 20 knots. Thank you fou h

You will need to find out what you already have on the there. Whilst most antifouling is compatible you cannot put a hard antifoul on top of self eroding without either, stripping the old stuff off or putting on a barrier coat first.

In our neck of the woods usually a choice between one or two coats of A/F and the type of A/F.
Most folks in our club will use our drying blocks, £50.00 a go ,which will give you around 8/9 hours to jet wash the hull, apply masking tape and your choosen amount of paint.
The keen sometimes with assistance will get two coats on before the tide comes back in, the more relaxed skipper will only apply one coat. Ever. :)
The "half" normally involves giving the waterline a quick extra coat with anything left in the tin.
If the boat is on the hard £450-£500 ? ,the pace is more laid back and one/two coats can applied at the owners discretion, the other decision will be hard or soft depending on your boat and use of it.
Usually a hard antifoul for fast boats and soft for displacement boats but if you have a whizzy boat but spend 90% of your time at 8-10 knots bit of waste of money ?
Most folks haul their boat anually to check /change anodes, ignore that at your peril.
Get that wrong and its real expence in the wallet dept, a bit lax with A/F and its only a lot of smoke and going everywhere very very slowly.
90 odd boats on our moorings, yet to learn of single skipper ever bothering about the dire warnings of letting the anti foul dry X number of hours before
allowing boat to get wet.
After a good going over with very powerful jet wash ,have put all sorts of A/F on top of all sorts of other A/F including the wunderkind "Coppercoat" .
