I have been quoted to antifoul our Sealine F36 by a known and trusted company
They have quoted everything per unit x 36
Should this not be x28 as the length at the waterline is actually 28ft
The lady I am speaking with, when questioned, said good point and she is going to double check and get back to me
What do you think?
Also waiting on an answer as to why there is a £200 surcharge for boats over 35ft?

I'm curious as to how you managed to measure 28 LWL on a 36 foot boat? That must be some swim platform. I'm also surprised they dont quote per m2 as that is a truer measure. I guess the 200 surcharge goes into width. From a sub 10 foot to 12 foot plus beam

The yard space inc loa .
Its there rough + ready number to calculate the loa as it’s easier to reckon up and should be fairer .
They will buy the stuff at trade prices and vol , win some shallow draft and loose some deep V on others .You can not expect them to invoice you for 2.36 L of AF , 53 hrs on the hard 49 p for masking tape , £3.85 for rollers etc .

Its about a days work all in but like any business there will be hidden overheads the punter can’t see ...like the insurances , floor space costs , crane overheads , VAT , staff costs etc etc .Maybe a 2nd day or part there of if your stern gear is getting a snake oil covering as well .

The 28ft length at waterline is from Sealine data
Good points re: width, deep V etc
I understand a lot better now, thanks folks
Now about that £200 surcharge for boats 35ft and over ................
I’ll ask them to crack on ??

You guys need to learn to get a little dirty

34 LWL - price on the tin + "bob-a-job" skivvy + deckchair and beer = job well done

I spent a lot more effort/hours in preparation compared to painting when I did my antifouling over the winter . The application of paint was relatively easy - requiring coordination with the weather due to the time of year (January).
I applied a barrier primer coat prior to the antifoul paint.
Overall it was a physically challenging job but the result was satisfying - a shame it is not seen when the boat is in the water .
Paint about £130 , other materials about £40, crane about £350 - 33ft boat.
(I did other jobs at the same time ..... anodes and outdrive service)

It's probably only an hour to Saint Raphael for you ... If you want me to hook you up with the guys that do mine, let me know
It won’t plane without destroying the engines , attempting......after being stood all winter , with a inch of growth on the props .

Thats a good price Mark .
Been quoted €2500 inc tax , plus anode at cost circa €300.This includes Something on the stern gear as well .By Amico in Loano .They do SY s and have a crane for small boats and a 800 toner for the big stuff .For insurance purposes they won’t allow DIY ers in the yard .

A weeks lift out , block off and lift in is about a grand at La Rague , plus another €300 or so for the jet wash scrub .How ever since C19:, the la Rague yard won’t allow DIY ers and expect a full CSI suit + mp3 mask etc ...probably another ins clause .Only professionals .

14.6 M lol .

Was going to suggest next year to Chris the DIY route .
I used to fly a mate from Liverpool to NCE , to help inc full engine service ....all the stuff bought locally and Del to the yard ....but we don’t know where yards will be re C19 precautions next pre season ?
3 days min to AF , anode , hull polish + wax , total engine + geny service with two blokes .

So the least was about €1300 standing charges + 2 tins of AF €400 , €350 for anodes , €200 for engine filters , €400 for the oil .
€200 in odds and sods .Getting near €3 K .
plus flights , hire car and airport parking if in the U.K. .....beer money etc another €500 at least .

€5K sounds steep hope that inc anodes and some “ snake oil “ on the stern gear .
Then there’s your engines a pair of V8;s which have 2x the consumable parts as the in-line 6 s .

Ive timed myself ( this year Mrs Porto acting as the monkey with me as the organ grinder ) to do the engines .
About 1 hr each to do the oil + filters another 20 mins each for the Fuel filters and 10 each for the racors .So 3 hrs tops .Air filters 5 mins .This year I bought MAN spec 3275 from a Swiss Agri shop for under €300 for around 74 L , the consumables/ filters from inline filters less than €200 all in .

Find it odd engineers in the CdA charging 1000 s then slapping tva on it all .I could do a pair of V8s inside 4 hrs tops .
Its not a full days job .As said if you shop around you can hold of correct spec oils + consumable filters for a fraction too.

His year it’s less than €500 for the full engine service DIY ( did 80 hrs last year btw )
€300 for a diver to scrub up the hull and stern-gear...it took him 3 hrs and the boat runs as it should , speed , EGT , rpm wise .
Anodes about €70 thus far as it was just the props which had gone and I changed them ...mini diver kit .

So we have actually saved money with the C 19 restrictions.

Next year I will get the local yard at €2500 to AF it , inc snake oil on the stern gear ....a first for me !
Our marina do a oil collection and disposal service , along with batteries....this makes the DIY oil change easy .

I’m leaving the anti foul this year, ready for a full strip and start again next year.

I had planned to carry out the engine/generator servicing myself but due to lack of time and work load, it looks like sud marine diesel will be carrying it out.

Yes your right it,s a big con been going on everywhere for many years . One yard said its to make up for being wider at the back than what it is at the front.
never heard of surcharge

Sealine are renown for their waterline line to LOA those anchor beaks add quite a bit.
