Anti foul question: \'Hard\' versus \'erodable\'.

It's that time again and some advice is wanted from people who have switched from erodable antifoul to hard antifoul.
Has it made any difference to the 'life' of the protection?
Does hard work any better than erodable?
Is there anything I really need to know about the practical part of changing it?
What make/s can you recommend?
Have you been happy with the change?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give!

Can you mix the two ? Would the be any benefit to using hard on the waterline if you are on a "lively" swing mooring to combat lapping.

The last time I asked about this, which was a few years ago, here's what I got back:

1. Hard is good if you want to scrub yot's botty, for e.g. racing.
2. Eroding is good if yot lives in high fouling area.
3. Ask others who moor in your area what they have found effective.

BTW we use hard on the boot line for the reasons tom suggests and eroding for the hull. Keyhaven has one of the highest fouling in the UK. When we went foreign (Brazil, Carib, etc) we used eroding but found that you still needed a botty scrub every 3 months or so.

Re: Anti foul question: \'Hard\' versus \'erodable\'.

On last boat I used Optima below WL and a hard AF at the WL because Optima doesn't "like" the Wl - it falls off - that worked well!!

On my Squib I thought "its a racing boat " so I will use hard AF - big mistake unless you can properly scrub it frequently - all sorts of wildlife grew on it - and we went slower and slower.....
This year on the Squib I will use errodable AF - probably Optima.

On the new (to me) bigger boat I have used Jotuns Seaforce errodable AF; supposed to last 2-3 years; I want it to last till Spring 2010 (18 months) - we will see!! Under half the price of Micron!!
