I was told of this spray today via work...

Called ACF 50? Anyone use it, tried it?

The person uses it on competition motorbikes for trial events and also for storage to avoid corrosion of metals and stop condensation forming on parts.

Seemingly great on electronics too as its specifically deisgned for aircraft.

I get the feeling i'd be a good thing to use on a boat if it stops moisture/corrosion getting to places just wondered if others have tried it?

Can't help directly with your question...... Sorry...... But do you down load Neils 'Motorboat Owner'? They did a feature on anti corrosion sprays. It was a month or two back. Interestingly, WD40 faired really well against the much more expensive stuff.

I dont - i should maybe go check that out. Im a fan of WD40 for a lot of things but he spoke very highly of this product - seems there is a marine variant too for basically covering everyhing on the boat, maybe try and track some down

Yes, it's really interesting read and quite eye opening. What was discovered with all the sprays, was unless you re coated every couple of months, they all lost their effectiveness. Starbright proved good too.

If WD40 do a marine variant, I'd be interested to learn the name of it.

Yes used it since 2001 when I cam across it used in aviation, first use was to unsieze an aluminium threaded cover that hadn't been moved for years and had salt water corrosion. Since used it to free up corroded metal and protect electrics and remove moisture. They also do a corrosion block grease and liquid. Way better than WD or any of the other lubricants. So always have a can and grease tub handy.

But did they test the ACF-50? I'd be interested to read that if they did.

Brilliant stuff :)
I first heard about from a very cynical motorcyclist friend who'd been convinced (very skeptically) to try it and has been a convert ever since.
I've used it on the electrical systems on the boat for the last Two years now, it certainly does seem to do what it says, prevents corrosion from spreading and keeps water out.
It appears to last an awful lot longer than WD-40 too, but that is a bit of a subjective view.
Quite pricey stuff, but I wouldn't be without it now.

I use ACF50, aerosol and in an oil-can, spray it on everything, makes the engines nice and shiny and seems to prevent rust.

Murv - did you have to go hunting for it or was it easily available?

I bought it online, that's usually my first port of call anyway for something slightly obscure so no problems getting it.
A very quick search shows it on Amazon which is probably where I got mine. Most likely can be found cheaper elsewhere although I think I paid closer to £18 for it (it was a while ago though, a can goes a long way)

I use it on my bikes after every major clean. It's the best out there..not cheap but does a great job.

A few tips though.

Sit the can in hot water for a few mins before use...this makes the spray work better and the stuff go further.

Don't go mad with it...you just need a gentle coat of it.

It will burn off and stink when the engine gets hot but the cold bits stay protected.

Spray it onto a cloth and rub it over large areas...goes further.

Do not spray it onto belts etc....!!!

Yes it is pink when it comes out.

Once on just leave it...do not clean where you have sprayed it. Any dirt will sit on top of the ACF50 and cleaning will remove the ACF50. I have a bike that is covered in mud..but a spray off will reveal it nice and clean underneath.

I will be using it soon on my engines..it really is that good.

Absolutely brilliant product, first started using it on my motorbikes about 5 or 6 years ago. They get used throughout the winter and are subject to all the usual salt, road gunge and rain you,d expect. A coat of acf50 means that come the spring a quick wash down and the bikes look as good as new. I believe the product was developed and used on the aircraft used on aircraft carriers, so subjected to a lot of salt spray and damp.
When I first came across the product I was pretty sceptical, but having used it for 5 or 6 years I can say it is fantastic. Nowadays just about anything metal that I own gets a coat of acf50, including all my fishing reels, tools etc and it pays. Before I found acf50, I used to use wd40, but whereas wd40 can free up some things acf50 seems to free up everything and almost seems able to reverse corrosion, and unlike wd40 a coat of acf50 lasts for months and months
Cheapest way to buy it is in 950ml bottle which comes with a pump dispenser, but I usually apply it with a brush.
Have used it on the Yamnar engines on my seaward and they look the better for it, also the outboard on my tender gets a dose every season and it really keeps corrosion in check!
I wouldn't,t be without it, buy some now

Been using it for sometime , don,t no if it,s any better than wd40 though , use it on my motor bikes, as they only come out in the summer, last job after a goog clean end of summer is to give then a spray over and then use a cloth to wipe over . Been using wd40 on boat engines as tend to give them a drenching ,and it's a lot cheaper :)

been using acf50 for a long time on motorbikes. definately worth the money and does a fantastic job. i keep a damp acf50 rag in a bag and wipe over various surfaces after a clean down... expensive but goes a long way...
