You can tell we are boatless, as even when we go for a walk its by the sea!

I always wanted to see Anthony Gormleys bronze statues, they are placed along the beach at Crosby, just outside liverpool, and have attracted a wide range of people that love them, and an equally wide range of people that would like to see them gone.

They call it "Another Place" which consists of 100 cast-iron, life-size figures spread out along three kilometers of the beach, stretching almost one kilometre out to sea. It seems contractors spent three weeks lifting the figures into place and driving them into the beach on the-metre-high foundation piles.

If you have never seen them, they all look like this;

When you actually look out to sea, there are so many obstructions - not only 100 metal men buried at high tide, but a huge windfarm as well in the distance.

It was so windy when we were there, that SWMBO got caught by a gust of wind and you can just see her flying away in the distance.

Luck she landed safely and despite a good slap for getting sand all over her, we arrived home safely...

Been to Crosby beach a few times to see the 'art'. Just love it. Go down at Christmas and you will find some dressed as Santa and many will be sporting a new tie.

When we went to see the statues the dog peed on one of them. I think that the dog's actions said far more about the so called works of art than I ever could.

Did your dog also curl one on the top of one of their heads as in The Major's picture? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

also another thing - its meant to be a duplicate of the artist - well I ertainly wouldnt like my bits on show like that, I think he has done a 'beckham' and had them enhanced

Thanks major I will try it at Christmas - sounds good fun, but I would imagine very bracing

[/ QUOTE ] The picture was taken on Boxing day 2006. Lovely sunset as you can see and lots of people on the beach to see the statues.

Very artistic sight when viewed from the top of the beach with all these figures staring out to sea, with some of them disappearing beneath the waves.

The Council voted to remove them last year, but stayed execution due to the uproar.

There was a boater who declared they were a hazard to boats.
