Anthony Gormley’s Another Place installation at Crosby

Crosby Channel to River Mersey chart 5613-4 shows that the limits of the statues are marked with flashing yellow beacons. There are about 9 wrecks in the same area (in the drying area) which could be a problem but I have never seen them looking from the beach. All well outside the main buoyed approach channel.

The word is that the sculptor/artist/whatever modelled them on himself. He is either extremely well endowed, or was a little generous with himself in the genital area.

There are a couple up at Coniston, one at Nibthwaite and one at the Heald. Both sites that have Arthur Ransome connections. Don't know the story.

If he models them on himself it is a bit of a worry.

Nice cast iron statues on Crosby beach. There are over 100 of them with some submerged towards high water.

Anyone ever hit one of them?

I wondered about that briefly when I visited them as I sailed to that beach from New Brighton in a dinghy many, many years ago, but we were daft & I've never seen anyone else sail off the beach since. The locals out of the River Alt are well aware of them as will most local sailors. Big ships would never stray that far from the channel & nor would many visitors I expect.
