got a new android phone, got Memory Map and Antares charts running on it many thanks to Bob for his helpful emails and for doing the surveying, allowing us to use the resulting charts etc :-)

for an additional £45 for charts (UKHO) for the whole of the UK, this seems a no brainer - but cannot find out how much space this would take up on my phone? etc.

anyone got any idea/done it etc?

phone - LG G6 32gb, but i've already used 14gb between view ranger 1:25000 maps of half of Scotland, and Antares charts... got a 64GB micro SD card as well so suspect will be OK

thanks

My Samsung phone is showing 1.06Gb for a single file with all of Antares 2018 Charts and full U.K. Admiralty charts (2013 version). Looking in Windows I think it is about 60/40 Admiralty vs Antares space wise.

I now have all the Charts running off the SD card - in a Download/Memory-Map folder. See the instructions on MemoryMap site - works fine now but was a bit of a phaff and needed an email to MemoryMap support, albeit they are very quick to respond and helpful.

Similar figures to Dunedin on a Samsung Galaxy Tab A. 730Mb for UK and 377MB for Antares. The Antares Commentary files are not very big in Offline Browser.

Memory Map does give you instructions on how to load charts on to an SD card.

When I updated my UK charts recently I had a bit of problem. Unfortunately I had deleted my old Memory Map folder on the actual tablet internal memory and this contained the link file to get MemoryMap to look at the card. (over-keen housekeeping.)

When I clicked on a UK or Antares chart using my normal File Handling program Solid Explorer, nothing happened. However when I used ES File Explorer, it opened MemoryMap and then the link is established for the future.

The problem with the instructions given by MemoryMap, is finding out what the SD card memory allocation is.

many thanks all

if someone had told me 25 years ago that i could get all the UKHO charts for £45 on a handheld device i would have thought they were mad :-) magic isn't it? i suppose the phone did cost a bit more
