I have read an article in March 2020 issue of MBY where an owner has described his Antares 8.
I have to take issue where the author describes it as not suitable for passage making owing to the fact that the engine, 200 hp Nanni, can only maintain
its cruising speed at 3000rpm for ten miles.
Well I don't think Beneteau would fit an offshore cruising boat designed to cruise at 15 knots with an engine unable to sustain this.
I have had my 8 for two seasons and found her to be a very proficient offshore passage maker.
I find the sweet spot for the engine and hull to be between 3000 and 3200rpm and she swiftly accelerates on W.O.T. to 3800rpm.
Motoring at around 3000rpm I achieve 20 to 25 LtpH although I do have trim tabs that help.
I feel this article could be misleading of this very capable boat.
