Hello,

We're looking at an Antares 30 fitted with an ebber D4 - it seems sensibly installed, with four outlets.

Can anyone with the same system fitted to an Antares 30 confirm that it will keep you warm in wintery conditions?

Our current boat has a smaller, web 2000 - and it absolutely doesn't keep us warm. Hence my concern.

Thanks

Ours has a webasto, with 4 outlets. Gets toasty. Mrs likes the one in the head as it makes the loo seat nice and warm! We have stayed overnight with it on often with it on low and only the pump ticking a bit annoying. Does take a while to warm up the main bed area as its last on the run. Main cabin can get very warm with all the curtains closed. Must admit we also use a electric blanket to warm the bed upSorry can't comment on d4 but I would imagine it would do the job as well as the webasto.

Our first boat was same as your and had that system. You will be fine no probs at all. We always had s small pug in as well to heat the cabin before bed. Have funon her, we were just starting out boating and had some great trips in our A30. The hull is a good one.

Thanks for the feedback.

Which heating system is yours - it would be good to know if it's also a 4kw system, or maybe a bit bigger.

Thank you

Thank you.

Away from the marina it will be the D4 alone for us, so hopefully we will survive!

We had a 32 ft boat with large internal volume and a Webasto 3.5KW kept us plenty warm.

David2452 - Webasto Guru from these parts had a 2KW fitted on his Antares 9 from new but it was really not man enough for the job when it got really cold so he fitted a Webasto 3.5KW - it could have been used for a Greenhouse :friendly_wink:

Do you know if your air intake vent was inside or outside the boat?

pks1702, you say you have, or had, a ST34? Same as me, did you fit the heating yourself?

Yes we had one until last November. The Webasto system was a factory fit with a 5.5KW unit, just about did the job but the boat did take 30 mins or so to warm from a standing start when very cold; but I guess it is quite a large internal space for one unit to heat.

Thanks for that, did you have a genset or is the Webasto good with just a battery?
And while you are there, can we have a bit of thread drift? Did you find that when using the shower you have to pump out continually or water got out the bathroom door?

No genset, battery is perfectly adequate providing in decent condition, it only draws any sort of power when starting.

Shower - Yes I am afraid standard fit has no auto float swich fitted so you have to periodically empty the shower tray by holdling in the manual empty if you were having a longish shower. Had we kept the Swift (which we liked immensely) an auto float switch was on the 'Mod' list.

Thanks for that, but I reserve the right to pick your brain at a later date:cool:

I have a 33ft flybridge boat with a D4 heater . It seems a good match.
In my opinion diesel heaters needs to be worked hard to keep them burning cleanly - and used often - probably not good if it is over specified. In any case put the heater on full power for 20 minutes to burn off any deposits before switching it off.
My air intake is in the cockpit. Fresh air better than recirculated I think.
Battery power is consumed for a few minutes on start up and shut down. Very little when running.

Fully agree.

We always ran ours flat out and opened windows if it got too hot :D

Great boats IMHO.

Handle very well, slow speed manoevering a dream.

Happy to do 7/8 knots very frugally or pick up her skirts and cruise at 18-20knots.

Voluminous for their size - what is not to like :encouragement:

Wish you many happy hours.

It will be plenty, with the proviso that the ducting is properly lagged, otherwise you end up losing huge amounts of heat before it gets the chance to exit the vents.
