Antares 30 Fly Volvo Penta 370d6

First off season greetings to all on YBW.
Has anyone any experience of interfacing Ray Marine A70D chart plotter with Volvo Penta 370d6 engine so that the l/ph and distances can be obtained from the EVC. I posted previously about this but still not sure if I require extra hardware to interface the ray Marine. Is there a way to check if the necessary cabling is already installed not too sure what I should be looking for or if this chart plotter which is probably quite old by now should be updated. Another question I have is on the electronic speed control there is a cruise button that I have never operated as I am unsure of it being connected as I understand this is also a Volvo optional extra which may on may not have been installed. If there are any other owners of the same craft reading this I would be very interested in hearing your experiences.

The EVC Volvo Penta read out should give you a litre per hour burn rate.

To link with 3rd party nav soft ware and to give you litre per Nautical mile and range on remaining fuel in tank tou will almost certainly need additional software and then a cable link to your vav aids. To find out you will need your local Volvo Penta dealer to check it with Vodia system. generally new boats are supplied with the very basic capability of software and if you want additional facilities you have to pay and upgrade.

Whether it would work with your generattion of navaids I cant tell you.

The A70D appears to be Seatalk NG compatible (for integrating the engine data), and so it may already have a Seatalk NG system fitted, as I believe this is how the rest of the system talks to the screen (autopilot etc.) When viewed from the rear, the left hand socket is the Seatalk NG input, and if it has a white/black cable plugged in then trace this back and see what else you have got. To connect the VP NMEA2000 interface you will need 1 x spare plug on the Seatalk system, or purchase an extra tee to connect in.

As for the VP side of things, as mentioned above there is a VP NMEA2000 interface which plugs into the EVC system via the Multilink system and then into the Seatalk NG system via an adaptor cable (available from Raymarine). A new version of NMEA2000 interface is being launched by Penta in early 2018 with a Bluetooth chip, which when combined with an app on a compatible device allows you to view engine data and diagnostic information on your phone/tablet screen as well, so worth hanging on a few weeks if you are considering a purchase.

Finally on the software side of things, yes, the fuel information (known as 'Trip Computer') is a software upgrade, available from any VP Dealer with access to the Vodia tool. It is very quick and easy for a Dealer to remotely check whether this and other software options are already loaded, and I can do this for you if you can send me your engine serial numbers. As you mention Cruise Control, I am assuming this is a later type EVC system, and so the engine serial numbers should start with the letter A, and can be found on stickers on the engine covers. You may also see a 'VV' number, which is known as the chassis or driveline ID - send this or the serial number over and I can look up what software you have already.

Hi Andy. First happy new year to all. Just wondered if you heard any response regarding the engine registration and software inclusions as we discussed earlier. I've not taken this any further as yet, thought I would wait and see if you found out just what additional s\w had been installed if any before goung further. Thanks four the help. Regards. Bill

No, I've not yet had an update from VP about the engine spec. and the missing info from our system, but the attachments on my e-mail should allow you to check the features and components fitted to your engine by using the 2.5" display at the helm, so have a read through of that and see what you can find when you are next onboard.
