Has anyone stripped and serviced antal w16 winches recently. I don't have a manual but did download the pdf which shows some parts are put up in to the base and some from the top. If the base has to be removed then so be it, however it goes against the ease of serviceing mentioned in all the blurb.
I have a service kit and just cant seem to remove the centre shaft or the bronze top piece even with the circlip removed...
any advice or help would be appreciated....

I have the Antal 8 - it's not the easiest of winches to strip - even after removing the circlip the barrel is difficult to get off. Watch out, when the barrel comes off for the spring-loaded pawls exiting. It's usually those preventing movement off the axis.
As far as I know the centre shaft is a permanent fix to the base.

hi charles,
yes it is a one piece lower with the centre spigot comimg out after (i think) the grub screw is removed at the bottom. i guess that because no one is responding that people dont service them because they must be removed from the boat to do it!
