Another web cam sail past

Bloody hell. That luff on the jib was a bit slack.

Still, like you said, it looked like a pleasant day and a bit of breeze before the camera went up shite creek.

I may plan my venture a bit better next time and invite interested forumites to follow the progress and record screen grabs for wider disemination. I hadn't apprecieted that web cams have limited feed bandwidth. I had imagined that once the feed hit a decent server that many people could view it. It may be the slight conceit of webcam operators running their own computer as as server that limits the access.
I may investiagte further.
 
Depends a lot on how the cam is hosted. Many providers either charge for bandwidth and impose little restriction or limit the bandwidth for fixed hosting cost. Video is very demanding on bandwidth and a remote controllable cam with a high refresh rate such as the Cardiff Bay one will be at the high end of this. The FBA one has a lower refresh rate from what I have seen and is less demanding but even so has limitations.

Both probably have enough bandwidth for there respective likely audience. It's only when a bunch of nutters like us take advantage that the problems occur.

Great fun though, isn't it?
 
It's tricky to work out the refresh rate (unless you know an easy way) but they each seem to be about every second. (watching a gull fly past on the Windermere and a truck driving past on the Cardiff cam.
The zooming and panning must use loads more bandwidth, I would have thought.
 
You could well be right about the refresh rates being similar but a bit faster than 1/sec. It was just based on impressions. The rest holds good though.
