Following on from the Penlee rescue I posted about a few days ago, here’s another bonkers rescue along the West Coast of Ireland. 2 guys sailing from the Caribbean to Ibiza capsized a 50 footer off Achill Island and got washed ashore. No VHF or mobile phones. They were three days shipwrecked on a hidden beach until on of the guys climbed a seriously difficult cliff to raise the alarm.
You would have to wonder what was going on here…

Sometimes media reports written by journalists who have no familiarity with maritime matters get it wrong.
I would pose the question; " Who said they had none of these items."
If they were airlifted from the beach, perhaps all their possessions remained on the wreck. If they are seriously suspect, the Garda Sub-Aqua Unit will have been deployed to make a forensic examination of the hull and the site, and a press statement will be realeased in due course.
Edit: While that online report appears to be under the byeline of an RTE reporter, there was no report of this incident on last night's evening news on RTE TV, nor on this morning's news on radio.

Achill Coastguard reported it on Facebook on Saturday. I’m not sure if the broadcast media picked up on it but it was on a lot of the newspaper websites.
