Here is one of my own favourites that should be better known than it is. "Half a century and three oceans" by Maciej Krzeptowski. It was originally written in Polish (that’s the version I read) but is also in English. Maciej is a sailing icon in Poland for completing the scientific voyage in the 33 foot Maria started by the even more famous (in Poland!!) Ludomira Mączka. This is a great sailing story which I put on a par with Bill Tillman. Maciej has the ecology while Tillman had the climbing. Has anyone else read it?

I thought he was published in English (American) by Sheridan House. I'll try to find Maciej. Like you I can only find stuff in Polish. I can't see him on the Sheridan House list but I know that they were recently taken over by Rowman& Littlefield. Nothing on their website.

Small world. . I met Maciej in the Azores 10 years or so ago when he was skippering Maria back from southern Africa. We spoke about the book he would write when he got back to Polland. I’d love to read any of his stuff – in English, naturally. It would be great if you had a link. Sheridan House publish one of my books and I know he isn't on their list.

People in Gdansk are sure that the book was available in English but none of us can track it down. I’ll keep looking. To make up for that here is another recommendation of a great sailing book: Peter Nichols “Sea Change”. Every sailor should read it

Sea Change is a great yarn. Funny too, and educational. My wife was reading it and asked what delamination meant. I said: for him, right now, it means the boat might sink like a stone at any moment. I liked the interplay of his real life with his sailing adventure. That was also what made “Passage to Juneau” by Jonathan Raban such a good story.

If you want a really funny read try “The Rosie Project” by Graeme Simsion. It has nothing to do with sailing.

Just finished The Rosie Project. Very funny. An insight into a different mental world from mine. Or maybe not. I found myself thinking like that too. Recommended.
