Hello!
I've read all the MDA7A oil threads on this forum (and many others) and somehow I'm still a little unsure of which oil to buy!
The manual states for environments above 10°C, to use a SAE 20W oil. My initial reaction is that this seems very thin! I was expecting it to recommend a nice thick oil for such and old, simple engine. Volvo now recommend a 15W-40, which would be a considerably thicker oil once up to temperature. Some forum threads have recommended up to 20W-50, which seems a long way from the origional spec (at operating temp)?
Morris Lubricants sell "Golden Film SAE 20 Classic Motor Oil", which seems to be a good option as it's an API CC spec oil. Possibly worth going up to the SAE 30 considering it's such an old engine.
I know I need to stick with a mineral oil with low detergent/dispersant levels, but the huge void between the originally recommended viscosity vs the currently recommended viscosity is throwing me off somewhat.
