I picked up the newly-repaired new genny (£300 thanks very much!) and headed down to the boat. Hoisted said sail and the rotostay foil parted the same place as before. Hoisted SWMBO up on the bosun’s chair to see if she could pull it down – no joy, so let her down to the deck and tried lowering the sail – gets stuck at the point where the foil has separated. Up goes SWMBO again, releases sail and notices missing screws from the foil. Down she comes, I scavenge a screw from the lower foil section, up she goes and successfully secures the foil. Down she comes – oh bu88er, the top part of the fitting won’t slide down the foil under its own weight, so up goes SWMBO AGAIN and brings down the fitting. Up goes the sail – can’t tension it enough, so down comes the sail, I remove all possible superfluous shackles and up goes the sail again – SUCCESS!. Hang on, the rotostay is set up to furl clockwise but the sacrificial strip is on the starboard side of the sail! Down comes the sail, rewind the rotostay in the opposite direction and hoist up again. Phew! I now look like Charles Atlas and SWMBO is covered in bruises courtesy of all those helpful Moboers racing past while gawping at us. We still had a laugh though!
Now just have to sort dodgy battery charging and smoky engine..
