Another fatality in Croatia

Not encouraging - opposite. In bad weather here in Adriatic suffers only "sweet water sailors" as we call them here. Trip through French canals via Ionnian to Croatia sounds exellent. Last year I have sail in Ionnian and Adriatic in November and it was fantastic . Go, go , go !

For those of us who have spent 30-40 years in the English Channel and North Sea the term "sweet water sailors" does not apply I can assure you! I think however that I understand the term (we have them too) I think the problem with the Med generally is everyone over here thinks of it as a millpond with little wind or sea and people with not much sailing experience can charter a boat pretty much anywhere. Having once been invited to join a party flotilla sailing in the Ionian I was disturbed to find ill equipped boats being skippered by totally inexperienced crew, shepherded by Kiwis who were so laid back they were horizontal. Before everyone protests I am not saying all who charter are in this catagory but there are plenty of them. It seems, reading between the lines that a crew with more experience would not have been there in the first place and if they found themselves there would have fared much better.... Look forward to finding out first hand what it's like when I get there and assure you that I shall operate as I do over here assuming that s**t happens as soon as you relax and take anything for granted!

Agree. That is main problem.People thinks that Meditteranian is paradise. Sometimes is really not. Second main problem with charter guests is that (experienced or not ) have to return boat in main port in Saturday till 9 a.m.
They made plans and on Friday afternoon they have to go even weather is not good.If they dont return boat in proper time Charter company have extremelly big problem as they have not boat for next guests who came and are waiting in front of the door. Here chartering season is starting 15.April and finish 1.November because of bussines not because of weather. It is not correct for people who came from elsewhere, pay them a fortune and be pushed on sea without knowledge.

Yes ,it is correct. I found for Kvarner wind rose for year : 57 days without wind,280 days F 0 to 6, 23 days F 6 to 8 and 5 days with F more than 8. The worst months are January and March regarding Bora.
Regarding waves it will interest You. Aprox. formula for easy calculating height of waves:
H(waves) in ft. = 1,5 * sqrt L ( free lenght of water) in Nm * Wind speed in Kts / 10
I do not have math simbols but think that you will understand.

I made "lapsus calami" - mistake in formula in my reply to Metabarca:
- at the end you must devide wind speed with 15 not 10.Correct formula is
H(waves) in ft. = 1,5 * sqrt L ( free lenght of water) in Nm * Wind speed in Kts / 15
