Another "accidental" grounding on a reef in Maui's Honolua Bay

A 94ft motor yacht was not properly tied up to a state funded mooring. They broke loose while the 8 on board were below deck. When theygot back at the helm and started the engines, they accidentally went forward instead of reverse and went straight into the reef. This has caused a massive diesel spill, and will become a big salvage job.

Sounds more like human error. Forward is forward, reverse is reverse. Getting them mixed up in a boat that size, according to UK regulations will have a very well qualified skipper onboard, is not an accident.

It’s possible that as it was a US boat it had single function controls and somebody put the gear in reverse thinking that they were closing throttle

WTF? That's going to get expensive for the owner. Won't do the skipper's career any good, either.

Shame, a nice yacht lost, but at least all hands are safe.
