I have just changed my anodes on my Volvo Penta outdrives . The ring anodes were pretty well eroded but the bar anode although coated with corrosion were relatively good.
However I had purchased the bar and ring anodes as a kit so fitted them anyway. On closer investigation I think the ring anodes did need replacing but the bar anodes could have been cleaned up. The anodes had been on three years . The replacements cost £65 incl delivery (for two outdrives) so that's not a lot to pay for protection of the expensive outdrives..
The boat is kept in fresh water with occasional salty trips - the anodes are aluminium, obtained from Solent Anodes. No sign of corrosion on the legs . Some slight pitting on the aluminium props.
