Anodes on DP290\'s

Can someone advise me.

We have brought some Volvo anodes for our Volvo DP290 legs. Do you all buy Volvo only, or do you use after market ones?

We have always gone with Volvo, just in case the after market ones do not work as well. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

If you think it is better to use other makes of anodes, as I am sure they are cheaper, where do you get them from? /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Hi Alex,

I went to www.zincsmart.com to get them.... very efficient and turned up next day.

Cheers,

I've used these people. A bit cheaper than the pukka Volvo ones and seem to work just as well. Got them mail order and they arrived 2 days later.

Re: Anodes on DP290\'s

18months ago I bought my boat back from the Med. Down there non Volvo anodes(ring type for 290's) were 7.50Euro!! I've just had the boat out for a full stern drive service and I said I would report back to the forum on these cheap anodes and how they performed.

I kept a close eye on things during the summer last year (thanks to the warm weather and water) and checked they were not dissolving too quickly. I'm pleased to say that IMHO they have faired no worse than the last set of genuine V**** P ones that I used. Luckily I bought three sets of these and the bar anodes back with us and I've fitted a set of these ready for this year.

I can only conclude that in my case they have done their job at a fraction of the price of certain others I can think of!

Might be worth a try, but if you can, keep an eye on them.

Re: Anodes on DP290\'s

18months ago we bought our boat back from the med. It was fitted with ring anodes for 290 outdrives that were 7.50 Euro each!!

IMHO these have lasted equally as well as the genuine article last fitted and have dissolved at a steady rate throughout the last season.

Could be worth a go. I checked mine occasionally throughout the summer thanks to the warm water conditions. I also bought back three complete sets with us and have refitted the same again for this season and will probably do the same next year!!

Re: Anodes on DP290\'s

Thanks for that info Kevin.

We have the DP290 legs and have used the genuine Volvo parts all the time, however, the ring anodes got eaten to the point that you could almost snap them with your fingers, the result of this was the 4 blade small props were just showing signs of getting eaten as well.

We were thinking about this year hanging a large anode between the props when moored up in Ocean Village, only risk is driving off with a 5kg lump hanging behind your boat. We will come up with something to make sure we do not forget to bring it in./forums/images/icons/smile.gif
