Hi,

I'm replacing the anodes on my 2GM20. The manual shows that both anodes need a small gasket - which they are sold with - but one also needs a larger gasket. Is this the same as the thermostat gasket?

I would also like to ask if I'm ok to start the engine after winter before I change the fuel filter. I'm new to this game and I like to make one change at a time (and then check it still works.... ) but don't want to do this if it will cause other problems!

Thanks in advance!

Can't help with the gaskets - although it is fairly easy to find a parts diagram on the web if you Google around - but I see no reason not to start the engine before changing the fuel filter. Of course there will probably be two filters - one on the engine and another primary filter in the fuel line somewhere?

Beware of overtightening the bleed screws on the engine filter case - they strip easily. The filter cases are notorious for leaking too on older engines.

Good advice from Garvellachs. Could I add that after changing the fuel filter(s), you will have to bleed the fuel system. If you are not sure how to do this drop me a PM and I'll send you some info I did for another forumite.

The gaskets on the anodes are nothing like the thermostat gasket. The thermostat gasket is a thin paper type and the anode ones are copper washers. You should be able to reuse the olsd ones. Try a smear of grease on them if you have any problems with leaks.

Dave, you sent the info to me. I found your wonderfully detailed notes extremely useful. I followed them all to the letter today and my 2GM20F fired up first time (after 18 months) and ran as sweet as a nut! Thankyou so much mate, I really appreciated your help.
