I have looked but they only publish the overview, not the detailed information. I think you will find that there is a maximum period per trip since they put a value on the policy of £161/£210 which equates to that sort of policy in the market. You will also find that there are restrictions on 'existing medical conditions' - I doubt thta there is a soul alive without an 'existing medical condition'. Some policies don't cover them at all, some accept certain things free and others charge extra.
If you have the full details to hand, could you check whether there is any limit on the length of each trip? If there is no limit then it could be interesting.
Robin, I have a green Amex so upgrading would be easier than applying to a new bank but I have looked on the Amex website and their 'Travel Insurance' is a very poor thing. It only includes accident and travel inconvenience. No medical, repatriation, personal liability, theft, loss, etc. Maybe they have changed the deal since you started with it, or something?
GH seem to be horribly expensive compared with the people I quoted at the beginning of the thread, for a one-trip policy - £540 per [edit] annum per person compared with around £380 per couple for 12 months. I haven't done a detailed comparison as the cost would be prohibitive in any case. Many thanks for the help, though.
I think you missed the bit you were looking for because it is all there but their website is a mess. Amex (and I'm talking about a chargecard not credit card Platinum) do exclude existing medical conditions I agree but everything else is there. Global Year Round Platinum Travel Insurance includes medical up to £2,000,000 including repatriation and escort if needed, dental work up to £1,000 plus the usual stuff for delays, lost baggage etc. As I said we had to have a paid add-on to cover us for sailing offshore whilst on a trip but the total card cost of £265 (£200 + £65 for the add-on) with the number of trips we make is a good deal. Also included is Hertz Gold Card membership, Priority Pass Membership to Airport lounges worldwide., even additional top up insurance cover on rental cars in the USA.
Thanks, Robin, I'll check again. Just packing now for a couple of weeks back to UK so will give Amex a ring while back. Their website must be a mess since I logged onto my Green Amex account and clicked on 'upgrade' to platinum first but maybe they are trying to get people onto the credit Amex - they seem to deforest much of Scandinavia every year writing to tell me that I would be better off with an Amex credit rather then charge card!
I've just checked again more carefully, there were other sections that I had not reached and, as you say, medical, theft, etc. is covered however the maximum trip is 91 consecutive days and a maximum of 183 days in any one year, which is nowhere near enough for us.
At £275 that seems to be an expensive way to buy that travel insurance; quite a few people offer it a lot cheaper though to be fair I have not checked it benefit by benefit as it is of no use to me because of the time limit.
OK understood. The time constraints would never affect us so it is not a problem and we have the card for it's own sake for business, it is therefore a business expense and offsettable against tax The 'free' insurance is a bonus since it applies for both business AND personal travel by whatever means, even if we travel by yacht!
