SWMBO always likes to visit St Kats for her birthday treat, and this year we'll be departing on June 9th to have a slow wander down, staying on Saturday and Sunday nights.

So, that leaves you two choices.

1/ Wait on the bridges between Bray and St Kats, and lob a few Eggs/ Tomatoes.

2/ Go out boating as usual, safe in the knowledge the non tidal waterway is a far safer place

3/ Pop in for a drink if you're at St Kats :D

Obviously that was three choices for those of you who can count :rolleyes:


Now I'm just wondering what I can entertain the slightly-older SWMBO for very little cost whilst down there... :(

you could ring 020 7481 9950 and go to il Bordello the italian resturant about 20 mins walk darn Wopping igh steet as a birthday treat for the missus.Always heaving and with proper italian waiters,they get you in,feed you fast.Not silly money and with a bottle of house wine about £70 for two courses (total price for two peeps) .
If you like seafood try the Gambas with roast spuds.Real cheapskates go over Tower Bridge and left into Thames Shad for the restuarants lining the riverbank opposite Kitty Kats.Some are cheap and chainy but good selection.Nice view of Tower and Gerkin in the background and Canary W.in the distance.:)

Right-ho, off first thing in the morning, to set sail at around lunchtime, but I have my trusty iPad/Phone so you won't have to miss me! :D

Slight change of plan, upon a kind forumites advice, we're going to spend the first evening somewhere between Bray and Tedders, probably around Staines/Penton/Desborough depending upon the weather, and then pass straight through Richmond the following day, with a second night stop at Imperial Wharf, which removes virtually all of the tidal issues with regard to St Kats!

The following morning, we can easily take an early lock into St Kats...

This saves us a very early morning to catch the tide, and also offers a half day extra in London. I'll report back on this score...:)

Lots to see within walking distance, Pepy's church, Monument etc, Bankside opposite towards London Bridge and beyond is smart and clean (Golden Hinde, Belfast), Borough Market is a must for atmosphere (Thurs, Fr and Sat)

I'm there next week for a day or two, enjoy your stay.
 
Great trip, first night at Chertsey, just a quick stopover though, and the following morning, straight through all the way to Imperial Wharf.

Imperial Wharf is the much vaunted 'New Marina' very close to Chelsea, but in reality is just a very nice floating pontoon (Well it would be floating down there wouldn't it!) with Power, Water and Security, along with a top notch full time Staff, an ex Navy chap called Colin.

There is no doubt the location is very nice, it's only five minutes walk to Kings Road, Chelsea, and really handy for trips further downstream, especially when you can't be bothered with the planning or early morning starts required to get into St Kats or Limehouse.

24 hour arrival is possible!

Expect a bumpy ride until the River traffic quietens down, then a good nights sleep, and very friendly and helpful service from Colin. It cost us a tad under £30 all in with Power.

One hour away, was St Kats, with the usual niceties and price tag, with a quick overnight stop at Staines on the way back two days later...

The amazing thing about this trip (Deffo not the weather) was the speed through locks, nearly every lock opened as if by magic as we approached, both on the outward trip, and the journey home!

On the way back, in Laleham, we met an old guy, even older than Oldgit and Boatone, in a tiny canoe-sterned sloop of around 10-12 feet, with whom we got talking to in the lock. He told us he was off to Henley. Then, he was off to Oxford, and then as far as he could get!!
Funny how far people will go in these little boats, but rather touching I thought...

Anyway, 5mpg as usual, so 20 gallons both ways, and no problems.

Normal abuse will shortly be restored... :D

'Horn' was the only option :D In fairness, it was only a little parp, not a road-rage inspired hornfest of Biblical proportions :rolleyes:
