Annual Maintenance & Servicing Costs: Sunseeker Camargue 47

Big decision made - have put a deposit down on a 1996 Fairline Targa 37.
KAD42s with around 1000 hours on them - but lots of work done (receipts seen) and broker playing straight bat.
Full Condition Survey being lined up in September with a sea trial afterwards.
Exciting times.
Congrats on your bold decision – ahoy! You’ll be absolutely delighted sailing in Spain. By the way, what made you steer away from the Sunseeker 47 in the end? Fair winds!

Running costs more than anything else. No point having a nice looking boat sat in the marina because it’s too expensive to take her out for a run when the conditions are right. And nipping to Ibiza to anchor for a few weeks would have been crippling on fuel costs.

Yup congratulations definitely due! Will definitely be cheaper to run than the 47. Although in my experience fuel costs are only a small proportion of the cost.
Thanks -and agree about costs - but every little helps. Need to gather as much documentation and links to good Toutube videos on looking after KAD42s and duoprops. If anyone has access to a User Manual I’ll pay to take it off their hands.

If you need anything more for the KAD’s…it doesn’t exist 🤣 No money required….just photos of said engines, boat and adventures

I don't suppose there are any Targa 37 (for 1996 model) owners manuals available anywhere are there?
The more intel I can gather on the boat the more Should be able to do myself.
Also welcome any details on upgrades folks have undertaken on their Targa 37s - specifically around the electronics or adding portable air con units.

Hi Clayton, How are you enjoying your Targa 37? I’m currently thinking about a Targa 34 from 2004 with KAD44s — do you have any suggestions or advice?

Hi - unfortunately and rather annoying the Spanish owners decided not to sell the day before the survey. I’ve managed to get my deposit back but still out of pocket and trying to recover surveyor deposit costs, and my flights and accommodation.
To your question - initially I was looking at the Targa 36 but the other half wanted extra room in the saloon/galley - hence looking at 37s
Many folks on here far more knowledgeable than I about the models and engines - general consensus is KADs are good if serviced and maintained / otherwise expect some hefty repair bills.

Thanks! There are so many opposing opinions about KAD and D4 engines that it’s difficult to decide which is better — meaning, which one will bring fewer unpleasant surprises after you buy something that’s always advertised as “well maintained.” Good luck with the search!

You'd be better off starting a new Targa 34 thread.

However, I've had a T34 for eight years and without sounding too big headed, there's not much I don't know about them. KAD44s / DPE's are great engines / drives too.

Having owned one for so long, what is the longest length of time you’ve stayed aboard? Just curious as I’m looking for a floating apartment basically and I’m thinking 38-40ft minimum.

Eight days or so but my partners often stay on board for a fortnight.

But it really depends where you'll be keeping the boat and when you're visiting. Our boat is in the Med and we're mainly there in the summer so spend most of the time in the cockpit or on the foredeck. The saloon rarely gets used and cabins are for sleeping in. I'm not sure if the cockpit of a 38-40ft boat is any bigger than that of a T34.

The main T34 compromises are a small heads (no separate shower cubicle) and not much space between the bed and the door in the forward cabin.

Also, there's just two of us and we're not big people.

I would like to upgrade to a Targa 38 but the T34 has been a great boat for us.

Thanks for getting back to me. We plan on keeping the boat in the Canaries and staying for 4-6 weeks at a time, there’s only two of us also. Maybe the odd visit from our daughter.
Seen a few 38s within budget but I’m ideally after a shaft driven boat due to costs associated with the stern drives.

For 4-6 weeks I'd be looking for a flybridge I think.

Like lots of people, I've sat in Lani's wondering what it would be like to keep a boat there. Whilst I love the Canaries, I'm not convinced that it's a good boating base but YMMV.

Pete
