Announcing the \'Pirate Olympics\'
Its just been announced that the East Coast Pirate weekend has been injected with a new lease of life with the introduction of the 'Pirate Olympics'
Our reporters have been out on the seas talking to previous pirates to get a few insights...
CliveG commented "will there be a largest table event"?, and CentaurPipeDream was heard to mutter "hah.... my BBQ chicken keeps me in practice for the shotput"
Other participants mentioned that previous serious contender Barbican Bill stood a bit of an unfair advantage as he had been training for the 100m boathook squirt for an extended period... and last year's finalist Full Circle had been seen working on an even better 'bench lift' than he has previously delivered....
A spokesman explained that the event is open to all children between the ages of 1 and 100, and that events are arranged in the usual categories, including the 100m dash and drink relay, Field archery, Equestrian and even the sack Marathon. There are spoons and eggs present, and glue is banned.
A wide and exciting range of medals will be presented to winning teams.
As in previous years, piratical dress is compulsory.
The date remains the 5th July, the venue still Walton Backwaters - Stone Point. Current plans is for events to start ashore around 17:00 with the fire being lit at dusk... bring your BBQ and own drink!
A full itinary nearer the time, with a possible attempt at rounding the island again on Sunday morning by tender if the weather is kind.....
Attempts to recruit a plank walker/victim continue apace!
See you all there.....
