Hi all.

Just curious on thoughts. I have pulled my boat out today for the first time in 3 years due to C19 etc. It lives in freshwater, maybe 3 sea trips per year for a few days to a week or 2 ar a time.

I expected to have next to no anodes left on the hull but there is a load of them left. See pics. These have been on the boat for 4 years! Should I squeeze another year or 2 out of them? Interestingly enough, the trim tab anodes were nonexistent, but were significantly smaller to begin with I suppose.

Just curious as my previous boats lived on trailers and anodes were rarely changed at all.

If they are zinc they are not doing anything in freshwater and have a coating on them. Ypu would be better off with aluminium anodes if you alternate between fresh and seawater. what are they bonded to as I would be concerned about the things they are supposed to be protecting.

That would worry me too ……..why ?
I would want to inspect inside the sea ( or what ever water ? ) cooling system for piece of mind .

We know the tab anodes went ie worked so we know anodes have worked what ever type in what ever water(s) .

Just found this pic of the originals fitted by PO. I see a big M on the sides of the hull anodes. Do these look like Magnesium to a trained eye? Happy to change either way.
