Anglesey knowledge needed please

The Menia Straits is only. Short day cruise from PMDog, jeeze even Kwacker has been that far ;)

There is a thread somewhere about a meeting in Porth din doodle in July that's got to be on your list for the Summer.

Don't miss out on Anglesey, it can be difficult but in the right conditions it has some great cruising.

Tom.

The very best bit of Anglesey (as I mentioned earlier) is that there is always a sheltered side, whatever the weather is doing & it's never more than about 10-15 miles away wherever you happen to be around the island.

What's this then...........have I been excommunicated?

To Craigy Boy, joining the gang at a Port Din Cline (that should endear me to the locals :)) gathering should be a very pleasant experience and we look forward to meeting you and, of course, drinking your beer

So there is, and some long distance cruising as well!

Sat 23 March cruise to Abersoch.... [B/] Skippers are responsible for their own navigation. Bugger they'll be moving over to the Straits soon to compete with the long distance ditch cruisers ;)

Tom.

:)

Had two years of doing that trip........ every other weekend

You are always fighting the prevailing wind out of poofwheelie. The weekend cruising options are going to be limited.

I am glad that the sailing club is getting more active in bringing people together and at least putting venues and dates in the diary.
When we were there the club was much dominated by the dinghy events and the cruising in company was non existent apart from the much longer distance trans Irish sea cruises.

I see there having a rafting up cruise to Pwllheli. :) Good Idea to get people together but dont be tempted to raft up when you go to PD.

Tom knows that Ditch crawlers get far more options any weekend....

Now it is turn left flush out of lock to either Rowan Bay, Caernarfon, Abermenai, Llandwyn. Porth Dinllaen, Pen Y Parc or Rhoscolyn.

If its southerlies than flush out and gurgle through the swellies and enjoy yourself at any of Menai Bridge, Glyn Garth, Beaumaris, Conway, Red Wharf Bay, Moelfre, Lynas, Porth Wen, Amlwch, Cemaes.Holyhead

Now 13 of the 18 venues have at least one or more watering holes. The others are good for shared barbies and fun boxes.

Our favourite overnight out of Pwllheli at a weekend was Llanbedrog.......... I think we managed that 4 times in 2 years..

Quite often it was too rough to go anywhere.....

Last year as a ditch crawler we only missed two weekends on board. It was never too rough to go somewhere and we mainly anchored or moored overnight most weekends.

Hopefully we will get the chance to discuss it in July!

Yep its good news re: the cruising section.....essentially open to all and some adhoc stuff decided nearer the time when weather known
Got some good people pushing it, and co-ordinating

Anyway.....cruise to Abersoch, drink at SCYC and cruise back is a neat day out! It our Hamble to Cowes trip!

Thank you TSB 240
13/14 July - count me in

your holiday plans interest me.
'We are taking Tamsin on the trailer to Brittany on the 17th... '

i always had to let my mother in law sit in the car. .....
Peter

Menia Ditch....... 18 miles from one end to the other.

PWH to Abersoch..5 miles max........ Bugger their pushing it a bit ?

Tom :D the devils advocate!

Its the first meet of the season, to see how it works out, test the process prior to longrr cruises etc.
and discuss plans for season. Anchoring issues at Abersoch to learn and practiice, tender to scyc, tidal issues ...lots to learn. Raggies mainly plus mobos as well hence its called the "shakeup cruise"

As your not coming Littleship, not sure why your so interested in it!

We all have to start somewhere, and I am grateful to thise prepared to give their time to teach and guide us beginners. We dont all have your experience!

Kinnel as Kwacka would say!!

Ok, didn't read it as a novice meeting..... The North Wales mob have had several get togethers which have been used to stretch those who are wanting to progress and have the safety of other boats around them. Ask Philiz he was one that enjoyed the participation when still a novice. I have over many years been involved in introducing people to boating and stretching and testing there abilities..... Lord I even got paid to do so.

I will say that IMHO there are several different destinations in that area which would provide a better "testing" ground for learning.... Porth Madog for one. That would allow not only a little more distance but the ability to check tides ect. Anchor practice.... How about behind St Tudwells island. Nice place to stay for the morning-afternoon and then down to SCYC and pick up a mooring.

Now.... You seem a little sensitive, you will need to toughen up before you meet the north Wales mob :D

Tom.

I got the skin of a thousand rhinos......don't worry about me ....I can handle you lot.....so watch out! :)

Main reason for trip to Abersoch is social, as its the first of the season ( and in March!)

Hopefully see you at Porthdinllanean ...Ill even buy you a beer..

Sorry, won't be there, I'm off to Scotland for the summer, should be leaving mid to end of March.

Buy the beer and put a dozen straws in it..... Pass it around the mob for me.

Tom

Ps. SCYC always very welcoming and the club tender is a great asset in the later hours, mind you the water fleas running through the moorings are a pain. Have a good one!
