Anglers deliberately casting at boats

To chich harbour master to complain at Paul's wash ;)

Part way through my recent thread about wash, where i said it i had my first ever complaint, i realised i was letting the side down. I've now abandoned the idea of changing to a sail boat and am going to buy a larger mobo. Hopefully, i'll be able to make much more wash and get my complaint ratio up to scratch.

Are you thinking of a cabin top mounted canon or just a hand held unit?

The advantage the cabin top mounted unit would be twofold
1) a deterrent - the errant angler could see the object before he cast into the vessel so would know to expect some sort of retaliation
2) power - a cabin top mounted unit could be plumbed into a higher power engine driven compressor - giving higher and more sustainable power ...

The advantage of the handheld unit would be that it was more portable and easier to "install" ... also by taking the angler by surprise (once they'd cast into your vessel) they wouldn't know which boats were "safe" to target - so may just give up the practice all together ... then you'd need to find another target for your new toy!

I'm thinking a handheld unit would be more easily explained away to a water bound police unit. Just tell them your a liveaboard who likes to go paintballing on the weekends. A cabin mounted unit would be great but, who wants a deterrent? I want the chance to make a point! lol

I dont recall ever getting a wash complaint in all my miles on the east coast (best exclude inland on the Broads).

The complaints one gets in the solent has nothing at all to do with the amount of wash you are making, it takes a while to realise but its obvious they are complaining about wash they encountered several hours previous when they first cast off on their epic journey all the way across the River solent , it doesnt matter if you caused it or not but if you are daft enough to slow down too much they will vent all their anger at you which may have been bottled up and stewing for hours.

You should try the Solent for a year Paul, your posts would be great :D

The best ones are the clots that stand on under power on your port side and then flap their arms for you to slow down

about 20yrs ago we were waterskiing near southampton - I dropped off & the driver turned round and came back close to the beach - problem was there was a fishing competition and about 30 rods shot off the beach one after the other as skiboat went past. It then cutout as the lines wrapped the prop totally- another skiboat towed us about a mile down the beach cos we were too scared to land at the slip! BUT it was hilarious to watch
