Android tablet for Navionics app

Before Christmas I purchased a Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70 for 150 pounds. 10.1 inch display, built in GPS, claimed 10 hours battery life, Android 5 operating system. Prices seem to have gone up a little now to 170.
It is a good option for you to consider - I like it.

I've got a Hudl 2 too and it runs Navionics and other software fine. The only issue is the battery life which doesn't seem too long. Although I haven't timed it

Another vote for the Hudl2 if you can get one.
The Navionics app is not as clear on the Hudl2 as it is on the iPad though. The memory map charts are very clear and great value.

I'm glad to see I'm no longer alone in advocating this tablet - its screen is twice the size of the Hudl, and high resolution.

The price fluctuates, but I'm sure it'll be back down to £150 in a week or two, if OP follows it on Price Spy. Its price has been up to £170 or £180 a couple of times before, but it has always been available somewhere for £150 or £152 within a few days.

John Lewis stock them, so OP can see the difference for himself. I think they also price match, don't they?

I use a Lenovo A10 (not A10 2) which is available direct from Lenovo for £129.99.
The A10 Tab 2 is a newer model by about a year and, if you can wait a couple of weeks for another price drop, definitely worth the extra £20.

IMO the higher screen resolution (1920x1200 vs 1280x800) alone should be sufficient justification for the newer model, but it also has a newer version of Android (v5 "Lollipop"), an o/s update that the older model will never receive. It should feel snappier and more responsive, too, because it has a faster CPU and twice the RAM.

The similar naming of these models leaves a lot of potential for confusion, especially with Lenovo continuing to sell off stock of the older model for so long. Argos currently have some some of the old model at £119.99, but mis-described as the new one; looking at the full spec reveals the error.

I've got a Samsung Tab2 10" - excellent machine but now 3yrs old. Still working ok but battery life is fading but not a problem as I always connect the power lead when on board. No idea how much Samsung 10" tablets are now but they are good. I tend to use it at home in preference to the laptop.

Whilst I appreciate that this thread is discussing the Tablets, I have been looking at the apps themselves, and the i-Boating app has been getting excellent reviews at the Google Play Store. It is suggested to be a little quicker, and smoother to use. Does anyone else have experience of this one?

I think that the I boating apps and the like have the disadvantage that you have to get third party charts from somewhere which may not be up to date. With NavioniCS, the charts include up dates which seems a big plus to me. theTE=x25dave;5576150]Whilst I appreciate that this thread is discussing the Tablets, I have been looking at the apps themselves, and the i-Boating app has been getting excellent reviews at the Google Play Store. Just got this tablet from Tesco Direct at £139. I'm no expert but I liked Strolls recommendation and the price dropping from £179 as predicted. The only issue seems to be not being able to get BBC video to play properly. (BBC need flash player and Android Lollipop don't combine, unless someone knows a fix?) But at this price I'm happy. This was part prompted by Teso saying Hudl2 is officially discontinued.
But I also noticed the Argos offers and the like with a variety of Lenovo tablets and was very careful to get the new spec.

Thanks for the 'heads up' on the prices, and new edition. Here's one perhaps of use to all.
Check out the MOBDRO app.
you can stream any TV channel, including pay to view, for free!!
You can check it out on line first, it explains how to download, and install the app.

Is it iPlayer you're having trouble with, or videos on the BBC news site?

If it's iPlayer, then you probably have to use this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=bbc.iplayer.android

A bit disappointing if it's the latter - I'd expect them to support the current version of Android for their website videos. You could try the BBC News app, though: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=bbc.mobile.news.uk

Let me know which you're having problems with, as I'll be interested to try on my phone.

Done some more playing about and I should make it clear that iPlayer works absolutely fine. The problem I am encountering is only with the BBC sport app and watching video links (for which you also have to install BBC Media Player). This may not seem too boaty but just needs putting in the context of cheap-ish tablets with GPS. I would not let this minor issue put anyone off. I really like mine and look forward to playing with something like Navionics one day.

Thanks for that tip Dave.

I've installed MODBRO (not on Google Play for some reason?) and it works. I've tended to use FilmOn up to now as the BBC News channel seems to work in Croatia. However FilmOn doesn't carry BT Sport subscription channels whereas Modbro does .... and without needing a BT account!

I've just been watching motorbike racing on BT but the question now is whether the Modbro proxy servers will work OK if I am not in the UK. Have you tried it from overseas?
