My first tablet - a second hand 10" Sony Xperia Z waterproof is great - quite an eye opener in fact so I installed a few relevant apps which are all working well, in their own way. Here is a brief summary:
MARINE NAVIGATOR BY Ronald Koenig. Used for UKHO raster charts - all 800+ from visitmyharbour.com (Seaclear). Fast, smooth and responsive scrolling and zooming. Can only use the built in GPS sensor, so position, cog & sog okay, but no other nav data can be displayed and Mr Koenig has no time to develop it nor further for the time being he tells me. (the charts cost nothing once you've paid for the initial purchase since you can install on upto 4 devices eg 2 Windows and 2 Android.)
SEAWI Excellent for nmea 0183 nav data over wifi, but charts are openseamap with no bathymetric data so really only for displaying AIS target overlay.
MEMORY MAP I installed in anticipation of Antares Charts (antarescharts.co.uk) very large scale charts of the West Coast (Scotland) but it has Ordnance Survey 2015 Road Atlas built in.
TIDE PLOTTER. Just released by Belfield and now working. (chartsandtides.co.uk)
There are some screen shots and info about using a low cost nmea to wifi interface on this thread:

I should add that I not connected in any way with the vendors of any product I have ever mentioned on the forum other than as a customer.
