Anderson 22 for under 1K

Certainly I have read some glowing reports on these forums about them.

Tardis like interior I believe.

' Made 1970 ' ? An early example indeed as they only started in 1973 !

Needs work,

early keelcase,

' keel thought to be OK, has been left on a mooring for 2 years '.

No engine mentioned.

A project.

If anyone should fancy it I'll provide some pointers to check; one of them, the forestay lower tang bolt, is important.

I know another better equipped boat, all the kit but needs some work, kept ashore and going for not much more.

This one Dylan found is nothing to do with the owners association I run though, don't know this boat from the description.

Angus, bet you loved that; in fact I've only ever heard of one other A22 with it, that was an area about 1' square beside the mast I discovered on an early boat I checked for someone.

Fixable but a PITA.

The decks were reinforced on later boats which may be relevant.

I was not making any comment on the type of boat - it's a beware sign in any boat. Fixable, but not easy, and maybe not within the capability of someone buying a fixer-upper as a first boat. If there are others at a similar price without this problem then as you say, they may be a better choice.

We viewed a boat with a serious spongy deck problem (owner only mentioned it to us once we had embarked on a 1000 miles round trip to view the boat). When he said his plan was to fix it by drilling holes and squirting builders' foam in, we didn't walk away, we ran. Who knows what else he'd 'fixed'...

Kelpie,

I take it that wasn't an Anderson ?

I have heard of a WEST fix for this which involves injecting resin - not builder's foam ! - but there's obviously a lot more to it inc peeling back the deck skin layer, drying out etc.

Eyore, good idea, it's not too late for you...:)

Nope, not an Anderson.., it was a Dockrell, a bastardised version of a S&S design which had been stretched, rudder moved aft, mast switched from keel to deck stepped, and, importantly, had balsa core in the deck instead of foam core.

The viewing persuaded us on the basic merits of the design, so we subsequently went and found one of the original S&S ones...

Sailingsaves,

no I certainly didn't mean ' Bright Star '; I went to check her for someone and was very disappointed, the photo I had been given for the ad' on my website must have been a very long time ago.

I found Bright Star in dreadful condition, with among other things the engine stowed in the cabin seized, and the wrong keel winch fitted, so if she is ever hoisted she'll be an instant fin keeler !

Easily fixed for £100 or so, a new winch that is; they look like a Witter unit but in fact are from Dutton Lainson of Nebraska...

Sadly my website software is obsolete, as you may imagine I dearly wish to amend that advert, am working on a new site now.

Bright Star still has a lot of potential as a project, I hope someone saves her; I have lots of photo's inside & out if anyone is interested, I would put her value in the low hundreds, up to the owner...

Boat in ad'

The boat in the ad' is in fact the one I was referring to as ' other ', Andromeda;the change of spec' and location fooled me.

Andromeda is IMO a good honest boat, as is the owner who I think has overplayed the spongy deck; I discovered it, it's only about 1' square beside the mast, though that's still unwelcome of course.

She has a Yamaha 4hp 2-stroke which I saw running, available separately now.

I have lots of pics of her too, the owner is a member of the owners association and the important modification has been done.

I went to view Bright Star and I was surprised to see that the keel appeared to have rusted and expanded in the raised position. It looked doubtful that it would drop. That was the main thing that put me off - too much work there I thought.

Can't believe someone is actually paying monthly to store it.

I'd like a seaboat like this. I missed out on the one Tamlin bought and I didn't see it go up for sale when he sold it recently.

Sailingsaves,

the only A22 going I know of at the moment is Andromeda in the ad' Dylan found; if willing to tackle the deck - a small area when I saw it - she's a lot of boat for very little money.

You are welcome to PM me for more info on Andromeda or in general, I am not exagerrating when I say there is a waiting list for a late model boat, last one went for over £5K.

Thanks.

I too prefer the layout of the latter models, the keel box kind of gives you a grand chart plotting room.

Sailingsaves,

if you went to see ' Bright Star ' on the strength of my obsolete unupdateable website I can only apologise profusely !

Having that ad' still there drives me nuts, and work on a new site is in hand.

If you ever want any A22 info inc member's forum for news on upcoming sales etc please consider yourself a member of the association, in which case drop me a PM for details.

Andy
