Andersen 40ST Winches

I'm trying to service myAndersen 40ST winches. The port hand one has come apart easily but I can't remove the drive shaft on the starboard winch. You have to rotate the ratchet gear whilst lifting with the winch handle but the shaft won't come out. Any ideas?

No idea of Andersens, note that. Just general remark, may help.
Assuming everything is turning - may just be stuck on old grease and salt. First thing: turn every gear or such, whatever there are, while pulling; something may keep it in place. If it feels stuck then try to wash and lubricate first. You may use mineral spirits, kerosene, diesel. Personally I am against things like WD40 or such, not knowing what's in there. In doubt I use diesel and kerosene, whatever can be greased can also be treated with it. Or use thin lubricants: penetrating oil, machine oil. This also may dissolve old grease. Wait until they penetrate into, no hurry.

Got that one too now! Pair of 40st and pair 48st now I'll be able to do a proper service. Thanks
