We needed a new through-deck fitting for the holding tank pump-out. We actually had one on the boat, filling a hole in the deck, but not much else, the original holding tank having been removed.

It hadn't been used for years, so needless to say it was somewhat corroded up. And wouldn't open/unscrew despite everything HWMBO tried.

So, off the Aladdins Cave, at Deacons in Swannick, to see if we could buy another. They didn't actually have one in stock, and explained that the deck filler Richard had chosen would do. But if they could see the one we had already...

Well Richard went out to the car and brought it in and gave it to Eric ( I believe that is his name, their only engineer, anyway). He set to with one of their biggest screwdrivers, some releasing fluid (which freezes the centre bit), and a hammer. After about ten to fifteen minutes, he had freed the screw top and cleaned it up enough to be obviously worth re-using. And in the process he had saved us over £40. He also GAVE us an o-ring to fit.

He had also rather badly chipped the floor. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

But... where else would you find that degree of help and service?

I like A C because they employ older guys who actually know their stock and how it works. Not what you get at some other swindleries where there are mainly just young lads working who know very little.

So a VERY public vote of thanks to Aladdins Cave for their help.

Actually, I have always found them very helpful too. Last summer I went in there to buy a relatively expensive piece of kit, and when I explained what I wanted to do, the guy there said that this was not really a good idea, and wnet on to make some other recommendations for stuff they did not stock. I was well impressed. Good store!!!
