It's a lovely old G&M genset, quiet and I think about 4.5KVA.

Started he up and let it get up to temperature then on load with fast boil kettle, complete sucess bit of black water out the back but not so bad.

Turned it off, drip, drop, drip and sea water seeping out from the bottom of the sound proof casing. Removed the side cover and found the drip under the raw water pump (it's raw water cooled) I fear the housing is rotting away but hoping it's a hose or gasket or summat.

If it is the housing is it considered a "bodge" to use one of those new "chemical" metals to build it back up?

That's a perfect job for some "chemical metal" Ian, assuming you can't get a new one, or one costs a kidney. Done well, a repair with the aforementioned will last for years, used to use it on racing cooling systems to adapt car radiators to take 3/4 hoses, ally fittings stuck in with the stuff.

Spooky advert

popped up on the right hand side for halfords chemical weld, I didn't realise there were so many!

Arrrrggggg which one?

Part of our toolkit Ian.

...together with hoseclamps in all sorts of sizes, including some of the "any diameter make it your self" variety... short hoses, long hoses, thick & thin hoses, "just in case" hoses, instant gasket, hermetite RED, Paper gasket material in at least two thicknesses, screws, fixings, self amalgemating tape, duct tape, electrical tape, PTFE tape, plugs, pieces of wood, cables and fibreglass filler, gelcoat filler, sealant, sikaflex, meths, whitespirit, WD40, hydraulic oil, lube oil, fuel filters, oil filters....

...who wants to continue ?? ...or is it just me ??

My wife is "glad we did not buy anything smaller" ... a statement made a couple of years back which I keep on reminding her about :D :D (but not about the circumstances under which they were made, as we had 10 girls ... 17 - 19 years sleeping onboard..).

Spares!!!

Yes to all above, spare oil pressure & water temp senders, fuel lift pump, distilled water (2 gallons) three socket sets three hundredweight of spanners, fuses bulbs, two crimp tools all colours/sizes electrical crimps, hydrometer, funnels ....... must do inventory, 'cause I can't remember exactly is in which locker/drawer/under seat.

And then there is the shedfull, oh and the loft (including spare fenders from two boats ago)
