CSO, combined sewer overflows. Pic of the Solent today. This is permitted during times of flood and can include untreated sewage.
And there was me ensuring holding tanks and head flushing is done 3 miles off

I remember being in Cowes Marina near the hydrofoil when a load of sewage was released. Not pretty.

Remember, this is the Water Company that was recently fined £90m for deliberately dumping Sewage.
 
Southern Water should be hung drawn and quartered for their shenanigans, but to be fair, it absolutely pissed down yesterday afternoon, probably an inch or more in a couple of hours to judge by my swimming pool patio. I wouldn't expect them to be able to deal with that, though all water treatment companies are going to need to up their game, because this sort of thing is going to become more common with climate change.
