I was wondering, am I the only one who has added short lines with carabiners so we can clip ourselves together in the water?

The old neck-busters from the RNLI had this feature, I wonder why they are not fitted as standard to modern leisure jackets. Then, they should be fitting crotch straps as standard I suppose.

Maybe I should be sending this to the PBO ideas pages...

Which brand are they Tom?

Are they Gibb hooks and does that make them quite heavy to wear? I told a lie, I have snap hooks not carabeaners (forgot the correct name), I figure for the use there should not be a hook breaking weight on them.

All Crewsaver Hammar auto 150N with hoods, lights & whistles. The lifelines are doubles (1 long 1 short) but they aren't too uncomfortable unless it's a really hot windless day. Don't tend to wear them then

Why do you want to clip together in the water? So you can drown together?
Frankly I would favour a proper harness clipped on to the boat to stop me falling out in the first place.

I have never seen a 7ft dinghy (tender) with jackstays.

Also, would you want to be clipped onto a boat that is sinking, I wouldn't.

As for drowning together... Are you sure you meant to write that out loud.

Far easier to spot two people in the water, each can keep the other alive, warm, mentally safe, awake, watered etc etc. Allowing the crew in a potential emergency to drift around alone is absolutely frightening. It would not be possible to hold onto each other for prolonged periods.

I am surprised you asked this.

He's not done a Sea Survival course. That's where they tell you to hang on to each other by hooking your arm throught the loop on the other person's LJ (big ship version, 10 years ago). Crabs on a short strop sound a bit more sensible.
If you don't like typing "so you all drown together" out loud, you could always say it's so you don't lose the bodies. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

It was not about not liking to say it; more, it was that he found the worlds weakest argument for not doing it.
