Anchors away

Re: Guardian

Gael Force have them. A 3.2kg (boats upto 10m) is listed at £90.

They come flat packed so won't cost much to post.

A Fortress is the class anchor for X99s when racing. For this purpose, I think the Fortress/Guardian range is ideal.

If I understand you correctly you went sailing racing without any anchor on board.

I would never do this under any circumstances because I consider it is bad seamanship. An anchor is a last means of safety when all else fails.

Technically correct, although with a few spare kids & some line could be argued in a protest that would do:-)

Benign conditions, local waters, lots of help close by - a question of judgement - I take safety very seriously.

Keep an anchor on board when racing, not to light as you need it to get to the bottom fast and then set, stow it in the saloon on the centre line, don't bother with any chain just rope, if you put it in a bag you can put it on the windward bunk with ease when tacking, personally a twenty five pound delta fitted the bill nicely for me when i raced.......keith

Yep you were breaking the rules and if you had been boarded for a safety check you would have been disqualified. You only do it once when that happens. A couple of months ago the boat I was on was disqualified from the warsaash series because someone had taken the flares, the fenders and the washboards off - no one admitted to it but we were late so we didnt check. Now all the safety gear is there incl. the safety stowage plan which we were asked for when boarded

as far as i am aware, (and they may have changed the rules) it states you have to have an anchor on board, it doesn't say where, as for moving kit about down below, the rule is unenforceable and no one will admit to doing it, but every one looks for an edge, and if you are not exploiting all the possibilities then mid fleet positions will be the norm, i fully realise that i will be called all manner of things and people will vigorously deny ever doing it or have crewed on a boat where it was done, but it happens, why do you think they legalised it in the volvo or all the single handed/shorthanded races, because the rule is virtually impossible to enforce.......i don't race any more so all i was offering was an opinion on what went on when i was racing,.. and its the truth, ...........keith

leaving safety gear off is another issue entirely, and one i would not condone, the reason for leaving the chain in the bilge and just using an anchor onto rode is you only try deadlifting an anchor and forty feet of chain once!!!!!
