Nice vid on the mby site. A few pointers to the not so obvious, I thought.

Nice to see Jon Mendez getting a bit of sun rather than being the drysuited volunteer for MOB drill in the Solent in the middle of winter :D

Thank you it was very pleasant, seems a long time ago now and Lester filmed it all and he is sadly no more at MBY :-( shall miss his amazing photos, unbelievable clever photographers eye and dry humour!

One thing, Jon. I noticed you were barefoot in that film. I always seem to whack my toes on something unforgiving and then spend ages rolling around in agony. I thought that was an essential bit of the process but it didn't seem to be covered in any detail. :D

Yep, me too, I did a very nice job of breaking my little toe by stubbing it properly on the mid cleat running barefoot along the side of the boat a couple of years ago. That definitely stung a bit.

I feel your pain, brother. A couple of months ago (actually it was the day after we all met up at LIBS, now I think about it) I shut my hand in the car door.

In recovery mode now with ex-thumbnail showing clear evidence of being a green-blooded lizard :D:

Oww!!

I'm also in this club, as it happens: as a teenager, I shut my thumb in a car door; for extra stupidity points, I'd thoughtfully pushed the lock button down first, so had to stand there and make a bit of a scene until my grandfather could come back round and unlock the door... :D

Not to mention trying to cut your fingernails with a bandsaw a couple of years ago...

sorry me being thick but what is the link

Yep - it took me a while to find it,
You will find it here
http://www.mby.com/training/cruise-further-cruise-safer-anchoring-overnight-43648
Or on youtube here

Actually, I don't wear shoes either.
In fact, I'm looking forward to the summer - should be at least five months without socks and most of that time without shoes as well.
Those plastic Crocs are one of the best inventions for the feet in years.

Ooh cripes, I don't know what's worse, a broken toe, or Crocs... :D:D

I cant bear to look at those pictures!

Yes very nice vid there by MrM. I liked the fact he made clear that you need to think about getting the hell out of an anchorage, and that this is a downside to using a 2nd anchor (or indeed a snubber). I've never seen anyone put the a/ball on the vhf antenna but nothing wrong with it of course. Regarding attaching a fnder and throwing it all overboard, consider the water depth. 10mm chain as used on that Targa 62 is 2.3kg/metre and that fender would support say 125 kilos, so if you're above say 25m or have 12mm chain (1.7x heavier per metre than 10mm) you need a second fender. Perfectly ok there in Cala Gran of course (it has other names too, iirc. Just east of Cala D'Or entrance)

That dash is hilarious @ 7:10. Beyond the steering wheel to the right there is a built in Garmin "GRID" ethernet remote. Nice gadget, but it is a remote for the plotter screens or a/pilot (so you can steer by joystick) and is mounted further away than any of the devices that it remotely controls. WTF?

That Cala Gran cove is really nice. I've anchored in the same spot (and Jon, took a line ashore - works a treat!). I'll dig out some pics...

Anchoring overnight must be a highly dangerous business then. I did this to my knee last season clambering into my anchor locker at night

I think the solution is to send out the SWMBO to do anything risky when anchoring overnight;)

Crocs are a no no, really man up boys any good skipper can be spotted by their ability to walk over a sharp beach covering whilst still smiling, cleats are ok it's winches and toe rail edges with toe sized holes in them on sailing boats that take no prisoners. Watched a 25 year old slip on a sailing boat and land a leg either side of a winch last summer it took him 10 minutes to even speak. Not a pretty site.
JFM it's a super spot but the wind is pretty fickle there so not the most relaxed if busy!

Or you could go for the minimalist approach - no toe rails , not even guard rails to tangle up your lines .At fuel pontoons the bow person just steps off .
Mid cleats are so near the edge one instinctiveley walks to the centre .Skylights are moulded flush too.
I think other builders have missed a trick here :) after all we can all swim :):):)

I still figuring out we're to put the black ball ( in the Med they seem to hang from the bow rails
Thanks for the VHF tip JM
