Anchoring off Swanage cliffs

Any places where its feasible to anchor, dinghy ashore and do some rockclimbing? Or is it all just rock rubble and you'd lose the anchor?

Do you have 'Inshore along the Dorset coast' by Peter Bruce? He details where you can pitch up just beyond Swanage and investigage the stone quarries. He says that you need v. calm conditions, some of the quarries have ring bolts where you can lead a line to.

Just inside Swanage Bay itself is good holding.

Watch out for masses of fishing pots along the cliffs & tide runs quite fast there, so would you be happy to be away up a rock?

There is tumbledown rock very close inshore - a few yards. Offshore is a lot of smooth flat rock. No good for anchors. We have dived it many times and would not try to anchor there. As alant says go to Swanage bay if you want to anchor.

Aren’t the cliffs between Old Harry and Swanage all chalk?
There is also a large, prominent land slip there, a useful aiming point when heading back from France.

The cliffs between Anvil Point and St Aldelm's Head provide some excellent limestone sea cliff climbing
