A couple of years ago a noted member of these fora suggested anchoring in Cellar Bay is free. Is this still the case or is it as well to use the pontoons?

Visit My Harbour suggests it is poor holding and exposed. Didn't see anyone there on recent visit so check with Harbour Master on 01752 872533. Fairly active in directing people to mooring buoys etc but not 24 hours. Mooring bouys gave us shorter row to visit the Ship and the Swan than the pontoon.

We anchored there last year, overnight, and didn't have to pay.
Holding was ok but we are a catamaran and dropped anchor onto the sand
in shallow water. Depends on wind direction of course.

Perfect anchorage for N through E to SE. No charge to anchor. Lovely spot. Recommended.

Well, used the top pontoon and spoke to HM launch master who told me anchoring a 10.5m boat in Cellar Bay incurs a £19 fee He admitted that fee collection was not rigorously enforced. Can't say I'll miss UK berthing prices, a week has been more than long enough.

Blimey, that must be new. And utterly monstrous. Dear oh dear.
