how much room is there in the 'hole' at Spike? <span style="color:red"> 1 boat max would be my guess.
</span> The proposed anchor site is somewher in the channel near Hale bank, I guess I could find a shallow bit there to reduce anchor depth and current speed. <span style="color:red"> Not sure I subscibe to the deep = fast theory, certainly doesn't hold in the open sea. More to do with inside / outside of channel bends which are not always as you would expect. Hale bank, which is very shallow, has a formidable flow across it as I discovered bouncing towards a discarded bath (well, it is Speke or speeeekchchche kidda la!). </span> Thanks for the info. At least we dont have a bore to contend with!! <span style="color:red"> Err... sorry to be the portent of doom etc. but See here don't be put off by the photo - that's the Dee at Saltney but there is a puny sibling near the bridge on big springs
