I am fitting a Lofrans x1 500W windlass.

The working amp is given as 60amp on 16mm 2 cable.

What size circuit breaker should be used on this size of windlass ........ 70A?

I dont want to find it peaks and nuisance trips but likewise want to protect the motor and the cabling from overheat.

regards

steve

I have the same windlass. 1500 watts at 12 volts equals 125 amps.

I fitted a 150 amp circuit breaker.

In 8 years use it has yet to trip.

The OP is fitting a Lofrans X1 windlass, which has a 500W motor. It's not the same as yours.

The 16mm2 is in the manual against boat size so I think should be ok does anyone use thicker against 60a !

What current does a starter take?

Bear in mind the cable size is dependant on length. 16mm2 can only be a genealisation; and it is 'there and back' length which is important. A 1V voltage (at 12V) drop corresponds to a 16% drop in power.

If you look at the installation instructions for the windlass, you'll see that the recommendation by Lofrans is 16mm2 for up to 15m total cable length, and 25mm2 for 15-25m total cable length.
