well.. Have a look at Lewmar Web page

Lewmar- CQR web page
- the first CQR anchor is model n° 0056503 - 7 kg

They are not manufactured under this weight as lighter models didn't work!..

The smithy (long gone) who used to build our danforth anchors (and most of the boats' in the village) used to recommend 1lb per foot length of boat. Seemed to work well.

is there a point to your story, since nobody here seems to be looking for a dinghy anchor, fascinating as it is.

IMOH both characteristics are important: enough weight to penetrate and then the biggest possible surface area.

[/ QUOTE ] Which is of course the perfect description of the danforth, a much underrated anchor by newbies.

Do you have any idea of the weight distribution on the Danforth fluke tip?

- one of the worse ( if not the worse! ) about 16% of the total anchor weight ( to be compared to 34 to 36% on the Raya Anchor )

Then OK for the surface area but NOT for the weight!..

bugger,

you mean mine have never worked for the 25 years I have been using them, including deep water diving and angling stops in good waves.

Blow me, the boat must have been drifting all that time... numpty.

I think a danforth actually puts a lot of weight on the tips once it is being pulled on the bottom. Having such a surface area, pulling it through the water will also shove it into the bottom fairly convincingly. I have had one defeated by catching a small rock between the fluke and the shaft. As they say, test it before you trust it!
I wonder what next year's novelty anchor will look like?

Summer cruise plans are in place and looking to be a great adventure .... north up through Estonian islands, across to Finland, then west through Alands Isles to Swedish Archipelago ... down through and then shoot across to Gotland and then home ... 3 weeks ! Marvelous.

As to anchor that will be used ? CQR as bow job and medium fishermans as kedge ... a small 4KG danforth sort as drudgder.

Now that'll get a few mmmmmm whats that's going !!

CQR is a trade name like Hoover to Vacuum Cleaners. There are many PLOUGH anchors of small weight available, but they cannot be called CQR as that's copyright. I say I have a CQR as my Bower anchor ... but in fact it's a Plough Anchor by rival factory.

With deep respect - you may produce or sell anchors, but unfair statements misleading about competitors products is a bit unfair. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
